Although my cousin Kenneth and I have played together in several projects over the years, we had never jammed with my Uncle Preston who has been making music for longer than either of us have been alive. After talking about it for years (literally), we finally were able to get together at the same time in the same room and play together for the first time this past December. We had intended to have a live drummer for the day, but our first choice fell ill, and being that it was the day after Christmas, unfortunately no replacement was available to be found. Determined to make this jam happen no matter what, I brought along the trusty Dr. Rhythm 880 and we set up shop in the main room of the Church of the Messiah in Canton where my Uncle is the music director. With nothing planned or prepared or even talked about ahead of time, we improvised and jammed for about 3 hours, of which Preston and I culled down into the essential 66 minutes or so that we have here. There are some obvious nods here and there.... Basket Brain was named that way for a reason pretty clear once heard.... but we pretty much just set a groove up on the machine and started playing. Kenneth did eventually end up behind the kit for a couple of guitar/keys/drums trio jams.... anyhow, our theory was that since we were blood, we'd be able to just pick up and play and come up with something listenable maybe even enjoyable!
